Steep Player Spotlight #2: Vanessa Magick

What name do you go by?
Vanessa Magick in Steep and pretty much everywhere else. If you see me on the mountain, feel free to say Hi, or squeak at me, or do a front flip over my head, whichever you like!
What’s your primary playstyle?
Explorer. I’m most well-known for walking across the entire Alps in Steep, from one corner to the other, in a grueling 4.5 hour trek. I loved it! Just seeing the sights, taking in the view… it’s better than any big jump on a snowboard or close call in a wingsuit.
Your favorite sport to play in Steep?
Hiking! Good old-fashioned boots on the ground, the second oldest way to get down a mountain after falling. Hey, walking’s a sport, right? This might be a bit of an unorthodox answer, but I just like the sound of my feet crunching on the snow. Second place, though, would have to be snowboarding. Wind in my fur, sun trickling through my (unicorn) mane… it’s exhilarating!
I’ve been everywhere. My favorite place is the last place I walked through, and it’s always been that way for me. However, the places I keep coming back to are the broken bobsleigh tracks around the Cursed Mountains. It’s a lot of fun to ride down them, and I can usually get some good views there – I might even have to try it in a sled some time!
I’ve gotten my fair share of world records, and I was one of the first to hit 100% challenge completion in the Alps. As for that 4.5 hour walk I did? Now, that’s something to brag about! People are usually pretty impressed by it, I think, and I can’t wait to do it again in Alaska!
What you do besides playing Steep?
Since the game was released, I’ve honestly not been doing a whole lot else! I’m a musician, though. I’ve been playing piano for 15 years or so and I still tell people I’m learning it. Never a bad time to practice it and, for the record, I kick butt at Guitar Hero, too!
Your wildest dream about Steep?
Steep was a game that surprised me more than anyone. I’d never really been into sports games (especially not extreme sports games), so I can’t say I was super hyped about Steep until I played it with a streamer friend, BattleAthlete, and it blew my mind! In that sense, it’s already beyond my wildest dreams, but I hope that Steep gets even bigger than it already is – in every sense of the word: more content, more players, and more square feet to walk through. Perhaps one day I’ll be able to get my name etched into a tree in one of the corners of the map… Cuz this unicorn’s legs aren’t getting tired any time soon!
